Having played with the band for several years, Russell is permanently unsure of whether to take on full membership. “They wouldn’t have a choice”, he chuckles. “I’d just call myself a member and keep turning up”. An excellent guitarist, Russell augments the basic trio whenever possible, largely in an attempt to reproduce the extra subtleties of the band's demos. “I get pretty much a free reign, though I don’t like to add too much. I think if anything I add a slightly harder element, and of course decent solos!”.

Resembling an Eastern cellist in appearance, Russell is certainly a free spirit, a point emphasised by the now classic gig in which he went to the pub in the intermission and forgot to return! An inspired songwriter in his own right, he has completed an album of TV themes, and a batch of excellent songs that reveal his love of Weezer and Ben Folds Five.
